school and university sponsorships for the orphans of St. Mary’s children’s home

  1. University sponsorships

Thanks to the financial support of Rotary Club Gütersloh-Verl the orphan twins Assanatu and Mariama were granted the possible to study at the university.
Mariama is currently in her third semester of medicine and is absolving an internship at the Kingharma Road Government hospital in the capital Freetown. Assanatu will probably take up her law studies in the upcoming fall.
Both girls have unfortunately lost their parents at a very young age and in a very brutal way during the civil war in Sierra Leone. Since both of them had reached the age of 18 and graduateed from high school in 2012 respectively 2013 they were not able to stay any longer at the children’s home. For both girls it was always a dream to attend university after their high school. However both of them do not only possess the intellectual capabilities to attend a university, but are beyond that hard working and smart young women. Dreaming of a career as a doctor and a human rights lawyer they envision serving the needy in their country one day.
For this reason unlimited partnership e.V. is pleased to announce that Mariama and Assanatu can now fulfill their dreams thanks to the support of Rotary Club Gütersloh – Verl. Especially for them being women in Sierra Leone, studying at a university is a great opportunity given the fact that barely 5% of all women in Sierra Leone receive proper formal education.
Since there are further children at the children´s home who soon will reach adulthood and who will not look into a bright future unless they can enjoy training or the possibility to study at the university we highly appreciate your financial support. For example with around 300-400 Euros monthly Mariama was not only able to afford the tuition fee but can also cover her material cost of the university studies, lodging and nutrition.

  2. Schoolsponsorships

Ever since Rev. Fr. Peter Konteh established St. Mary’s children’s home during the civil war, it solely survived with the help of donations. As Peter stated himself there are years that are better than others in terms of finances. But overall there CARITAS Freetown struggles to take care of the need of the 38 children. In years when donations cannot cover all the basic expenses, Peter mostly covers the expenses out of his own pocket. Since this not an easy task at all, he would appreciate the interest and support of anyone who would like to assume sponsorship for one of his children. Today all of them are between the age of 5 and 18 years.
